This is a set of 3 antique, framed, hand-colored lithographs from J. J. Audubon’s masterwork, The Birds of America (1826-1838). John James Audubon (1785-1851) is perhaps the most famous of early American naturalists. Birds of America is one of the best examples of hand-colored work in America and is highly collectible. The beautiful set includes: 1) Willow Grous or Large Ptarmigan, No. 39. Engraved, Printed and Coloured by R. Havell, 1834; 2) Blue-Wimged Teal, No. 63. Engraved, Printed and Coloured by R. Havell, 1936; 3) Wild Turkey, No. 11. Engraved by W. H. Lisa(rs). Retouched by R. Havell. Both Lisars and Havell were accomplished British engravers. These lithographs are matted and framed in simple medium brown wood frames measuring “26”W x 21″H. The prints themselves are in excellent condition. The frames have wear and tear and reflect their age.
